Christmas Eve

We spent our time waiting for Santa at Jeannie and Steve's house with Mom and Daddy. We had a delicious meal, heard about the Christmas story and the many Old Testament prophets that foretold of Christ's coming, then opened some presents. Abbie definitely scored some great presents, including socks that look like shoes and lots of books. Maybe next week we'll teach her how to read. :-)

Merry Christmas

We hope all of your celebrations were merry!

Wakin' up is hard to do

Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving day at Kathleen and Oscar's house with the whole family. Then we traveled to Richmond for the rest of the weekend. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures there, but we are going back at Christmas and will take some then.

Courtney was GREAT with Abbie and had such a fun time holding her.

This is one of our new favorite pictures of Abigail. Tomorrow we'll probably have a picture that we like even more, but for now it's this one. Enjoy.
The weekend after Halloween, my brother, Matthew, my sister, Amy and her two sons, Douglas and Alex, came to visit us for the weekend. It was great to have them here, even if it was for just a couple days. Amy brought several yummy meals for us to cook up after they left. She provided a much-needed helping hand with Abbie as well.

Douglas was a very proud cousin as he was holding Abbie for the first time. He did a wonderful job of keeping his hands clean . I saw him wash them about ten times in the five minutes before he held her! Alex didn't want to touch Abbie. He kept his distance.

I couldn't get my brother to change any diapers, but it was nice to see him. We watched some good football, and having him over gave me an excuse to have a beer or two.

Abbie's 1st sponge bath

Until her little umbilical stump falls off, we have to give her a sponge bath. When we washed her hair and when it dried, it stuck straight up! She was a sight!

Coming home--October 20

We came home on Saturday after Abbie's birthday. My family was there to greet us, which was nice and crazy at the same time. All of Abbie's cousins on my side were there to greet her. She was so thrilled, she slept through it. :-) My sister, Jeannie, had brought dinner and my other sister, Paige, ran some errands for us. Our new life begins!

At the hospital--part 3

We had lots of visitors at the hospital in Abbie's first few days of life. Mostly family members visited, but our friends John and Alison came by as well as two of my yearbook students, Jessica and Emily. I should have taken pictures of them with the baby to post, but alas, my pregnant brain still lingers. Here are a few pics from the hospital.

At the hospital--Part 2

Pre-baby and post-baby! :-)

At 6am on Tuesday, October 16th, the doctors started me on Pitocin, which induces labor. At 2pm, they broke my water and that's when "active" labor started. After about 10 hours of active labor, they checked my progression and I had gotten an infection, had a fever, and Abbie's heartrate had gone up. That's when they decided to do a C-section. We were scared because that was the LAST thing I wanted to do. You know, major surgery and all. But, all went well. She proved to be gianormous, 9 pounds and 6 ounces and 21 1/2 inches long. Check her out!
